BOONE, NC — A man is facing several charges after police say he hit a bicyclist with his truck and left the scene.

The accident happened on Thursday on US Highway 421 and Bamboo Road in Boone.

Boone Police say they found the bicyclist at the scene with serious injuries. The victim was taken to Watauga Medical Center for treatment.

Officers identified the truck that hit the bicyclist as an older model red GMC Sierra truck. A deputy spotted the truck and stopped the driver, 21-year-old Alejandro Facundo, of Greensboro.

The deputy arrested Facundo and took him to the Watauga County Detention Center.

He is charged with felony hit and run, driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, operating a vehicle without two headlamps and a mirror violation.

He was given a $40,000 secured bond and is expected in court on June 30, 2025.
