CINCINNATI (AP) β The first half of the Major League season came to an end last night and that means it is almost time for the All-Star Game. In fact the Mid-Summer Classic will be played tomorrow night in Cincinnati where this evening some of the game’s biggest hitters will take part in the Home Run Derby.
CINCINNATI (AP) β A check of the standings in baseball at the half-way mark of the season shows the following teams on top. In the American League the Yankees are leading the way in the East while the Royals are tops in the Central and the Angels are No. 1 in the West. In the National League it’s Washington in the East, St. Louis in the Central and the Dodgers in the West.
LONDON (AP) β The post Wimbledon player rankings have been released and the two winners in London are both No. 1. For the women that of course means Serena Williams with Maria Sharapova (shah-rah-POH’-vah) ranked second. For the men Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) is No. 1 with Roger Federer, the man he beat in Sunday’s final, No. 2.
SILVIS, Ill. (AP) β Jordan Spieth (speeth), the 21-year-old superstar of the PGA Tour, is looking for a sweep of the three major tournaments in men’s golf this week. He’s already won the Masters and U.S. Open this year and starting this Thursday he’ll be competing in the British Open in St. Andrews, Scotland.
MILWAUKEE (AP) β Sebastien Bourdais (bohr-DAY’) was the winner of the IndyCar race in Milwaukee yesterday. He pulled away following a late caution to win his second IndyCar race of the season. The victory is the 34th of his career and first at an oval track since winning at Milwaukee in 2006.
