Couch Chat: What’s In A Name?
We’re going to start with something noticeable missing from headlines about the Texas Church Shooting… the shooter’s name. The FBI and police in Texas now refuse to say the shooter’s name. They say, it’s an effort not to glorify the killer of 26 people, and to discourage copycats.
Several national networks are not only omitting the name, but have taken down the shooter’s pictures.
This is part of a bigger movement. We read up on campaign called, no notoriety.
A father started it in 2012, when his son was killed in the Aurora movie theater shooting. ‘No Notoriety’ challenges the media not to report a mass shooter’s name, picture, manifesto or mental health status. But instead, focus on the victims and the heroes.
