Changes on the way to the forecast

Summer’s grip on the area goes out with a stormy Tuesday evening, followed by a drying trend for the start of the July 4th Holiday!

Temperatures continue to soar in the Piedmont, with feels like temperatures even higher. Today marks the 10th day in a row that Charlotte has crossed the 90-degree mark. The repetitive pattern of temperatures past 90 and isolated afternoon storms has one more day in it tomorrow. Same story for the High Country, although temperatures will top out in the low 80s tomorrow.  After that, we see a shake up in the pattern for the middle of this work week. A frontal system looks to cross the area from west to east Tuesday afternoon and evening. This will bring a widespread line of showers and storms with heavy rain, lightning, and the potential for one or two stronger storms area-wide. By Wednesday this will pass most of us by, but could get caught up enough that folks in the southeast portion of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area could still see a couple storms. With the unsettled weather, temperatures look to only reach the upper 80s for most of us on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures remain steady at around 80 for the High Country in that timeframe.

The good news is this front will help to dry things out going into the 4th however, we heat right back up to above-average temperatures for the end of the work week. There is a pretty big variable in the forecast for the holiday weekend ahead. A new area to watch in the tropics has a low-end chance of developing on the tail end of our front along the southeast coast, or in the eastern Gulf. Regardless of development, this tropical energy will increase rain chances wherever it goes. The good news is, as of now, I think we look good for the 4th itself. With that said, the days following will need to be monitored as this system could return rain chances depending on its track.
