Sheriff’s Office: No charges after deadly shooting at Dollar General in York Co.

SHARON, SC – No charges are being filed against a man who shot and killed another man outside a Dollar General store in York County.

Deputies were called to the store on York Highway in the town of Sharon on July 10th.

After speaking with witnesses and collecting evidence, investigators determined that 69-year-old Joseph Lewis walked up to a car and threatened the driver.

They say Lewis punched the man through the driver’s side window, who then pulled out a gun and shot Lewis one time.

Paramedics took Lewis to the hospital where he died a couple of days later.

The Sheriff’s Office and the Sixteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office say the driver of the car acted in self-defense and was lawfully carrying the gun.
