CMPD: Violent crime in Charlotte is down 25%
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say overall crime in the Queen City is on the decline. CMPD just announced that overall crime is down eight-percent compared to the first two quarters of 2024. They say violent crime has taken the biggest tumble and is down 25 percent. That includes things like homicides, robberies, shootings and sex assaults.
CMPD tells WCCB Charlotte that it’s all the result of teamwork. Lt. Crystal Fletcher says, “This progress in public safety is being driven by the daily efforts of our officers, data-driven resource deployment, innovative strategies, and strong ongoing partnerships with the community.”
There’s still some work left to be done: burglaries are up by seven percent and thefts from cars are also up by three percent.
