NEW YORK (AP) — Essence Carson scored 16 points off the bench to lead New York past San Antonio with an 84-68 victory on Wednesday, the Liberty’s first win against the Stars since 2011.
Tina Charles, announced as an All-Star game starter on Tuesday, had 14 points and Sugar Rodgers and Epiphanny Prince added 13 apiece for the Liberty (8-5). Prince made her Madison Square Garden debut as a Liberty player before a camp day crowd of 18,617.
Danielle Robinson reached double figures for the fourth time in five games, leading the Stars with 18 points. Sophia Young-Malcom and Danielle Adams had 11 points each and Dearica Hamby added 10 for the Stars (3-11), who had just nine players available. Double-digit scorers Kayla McBride and Jia Perkins sat out again with injuries.
The Liberty led 39-30 at the half. The Stars cut the lead to four points in the third quarter, but the Liberty built a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter, helped by eight points from Rodgers.
