Rock Hill Schools go back to class with new SC ban on cellphones in classrooms in effect
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Students in Rock Hill wrapped up their first week back on campus. District leaders tell us classes are off to a good start. Rock Hill Schools says they were able to fill more than 99 percent of their vacant teaching positions. And while there’s still hiring to be done, every classroom has a certified teacher.
The district’s superintendent Dr. Deborah Elder also told WCCB that starting the new year with South Carolina’s new ban on cell phones in schools will help keep students on track. Elder says, “That gives us a tremendous edge in helping to get on top of of cell phones in schools. As we all know, students are creative. So, finding ways to help students not just comply, but to understand the why behind us, wanting them to keep their cell phones out of sight, out of mind, and focus on the people and the learning in front of them.”
Elder says the district also has robust safety and emergency plans in place this school year and practice drills have already began.
