CHARLOTTE, NC — A suspect currently on court ordered electronic monitoring was arrested in northwest Charlotte Thursday after police spotted him in a stolen vehicle and he refused to stop.
Police spotted and identified Kievon Ratchford, 18, around 5:30pm today and began tracking him after he refused to stop for officers. Helicopter and tracking information allowed officers to follow Ratchford to Augusta Street and Dr. Webber Avenue where he jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a vacant home, according to reports.
Police took Ratchford into custody and determined that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen during a recent armed robbery. According to police, that robbery took place around 10:15pm on December 2 on Beatties Ford Road. The victim said two male suspects robbed him at gunpoint and took his 2009 Toyota Camry as he was about to leave the Queens Mini Mart. He wasn’t injured in the robbery.
Investigators have not determined if he was involved in the actual robbery or if he came into possession of the vehicle at a later time, but Ratchford has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle as well as multiple driving violations.
