Two Men Arrested After Trying To Buy A Car With A Stolen Identity
UNION COUNTY, NC — Authorities arrested two suspects Tuesday after they allegedly tried to buy a car at an Indian Trail dealership using another man’s identity.
Union County deputies say a South Carolina man reported a possible fraud underway Tuesday afternoon when an identity protection company notified him of a credit check being run in his name at the Chysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram of Indian Trail. According to reports, a customer submitted an online credit application for a vehicle using the victim’s information and had been calling the dealership to check on its status.
The dealership, working alongside the Union County Sheriff’s Office, contacted the suspect and told him the form was approved and needed him to come in and sign the final paperwork.
Barrington Llewellyn, 26, of Charlotte, arrived at the dealership in a Land Rover, along with 34-year-old Antoine Miller, of Orlando, Florida, to sign the forms. Deputies say Llewellyn presented a SC driver’s license with his photo, but displaying the victim’s name and information.
After signing the documents, deputies arrested both Llewellyn and Miller in connection to the case.
Llewellyn is charged with Identity Theft and two counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses. Miller was charged with one count of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and released from custody.
