Grandfather accused of putting drugs in Dairy Queen Blizzards

WILMINGTON, N.C. – A North Carolina grandfather was taken into custody for allegedly putting drugs in the Dairy Queen Blizzards he gave to his grandchildren.

The Wilmington Police Department says James Yokeley flagged down an officer near a gas station earlier this month and told the officer his two granddaughters found pills inside of the ice cream bought at a Dairy Queen in New Hanover County.

The pills later tested positive for cocaine and ecstasy.

Detectives later got surveillance footage from the restaurant and claimed that Yokeley put the drugs in the frozen treat.

“Two teenage girls have located some pills in their Blizzards, which is, as you probably know, an ice cream product you can get from Dairy Queen,” Wilmington Police Department’s Lt. Greg Willett said. “There were paramedics that were already there at the Sheetz. They weren’t specifically called for this incident. In fact, that’s actually why we believe that they stopped there.”

The 66-year-old is facing felony charges related to the matter. Medical officials checked the girls and confirmed neither one ingested any illegal substance.
