Another measles case confirmed in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA, – The SC Department of Public Health has confirmed a third case of measles in the state since July. Health officials will only say the patient is in the upstate. The person is unvaccinated, and recently went on an international trip to a country with an ongoing measles outbreak.

The disease was considered eliminated in America in the 90s. But now, it’s seeing a resurgence as vaccination rates drop.

The measles is very contagious and can remain in the air up to two-hours after an infected person leaves the room. Initial symptoms include fever, cough and a runny nose, followed by a rash that persists for five to six days.
