Mitchell’s House hosts 2nd annual Hollywood Nights Gala

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A local non-profit that is the only one of its kind in America hosted a fundraiser Friday night in west Charlotte. Mitchell’s House provides provides free counseling to families whose children have received a terminal or life-threatening diagnosis. The woman behind the non-profit, Meg McElwain, lost her two-year-old son Mitchell to cancer. Now, she’s using his story to help other families. She says of the therapy, “We have medical toys that they can work through their feelings, their fears for whatever procedures that they are going through. Our licensed mental health counselors spend time with them. Normalize what’s happening.”

Mitchell’s House provides free services to 200-plus individuals per year but the demand is triple their capacity. WCCB Charlotte’s Morgan Fogarty emceed the gala.
