Elevated fire danger across our region Wednesday
Dry and cooler conditions persist
A cold front will move out of the area pretty quickly tonight, bringing in a fresh push of cool, dry air. Behind the front, winds will stay pretty gusty overnight, which will keep the air stirred up causing temperatures to drop into the upper 30s to upper 40s across the region. If you’re up in the higher elevations of the Smokies or Black Mountains, you might even see temperatures dip close to freezing.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, we’re in for a nice, crisp fall day. The area will be under a dry airmass, which will give way to gusty winds, and increase fire concerns. Humidity levels will be down into the 25–30% range especially outside the mountains.
Otherwise, expect sunny skies and cooler temperatures tomorrow, with highs ranging from the low 60s to low 70s.
Wednesday night will bring clear skies and cool temperatures, especially in the mountains, where lows could drop into the 30s. The air will be quite dry, so while some patchy frost can’t be ruled out, it’s not expected to be widespread.
High pressure will stay in control across the Southeast through Friday, so we’re looking at a stretch of dry weather with little to no chance of rain.
