Frost and freeze alerts move into the area

Finally a drenching rain is moving in next next week

Tonight, clear skies persist as many areas prepare for patchy frost for most of the Piedmont.
By early Friday morning, temperatures will take a sharp drop across the region. In our mountain communities, readings are expected to fall below freezing, which has prompted a Freeze Warning. Be sure to protect any sensitive plants and outdoor pipes before heading to bed.

Farther east, along the I-40 corridor, it won’t be quite as cold, but frost is still possible. A Frost Advisory is in effect, so you’ll want to cover up any outdoor plants overnight.

Around the Charlotte area, we’ll start off cool once again with lows in the low to mid-40s. By the afternoon, temperatures will climb into the upper 60s under mostly sunny skies. It will still be a touch cooler than normal for this time of year.

Looking ahead to the weekend, we’ll stay mainly dry, but clouds will begin to increase. Temperatures remain on the cool side with morning lows in the 40s and afternoon highs in the 60s a classic fall feel for your weekend plans.

A bigger storm system is on the way that will shift our weather pattern out of sunshine into rain we desperately need across the region. At this point it’s too early to say how much rain, but this will be a multi-day event that will help put a minor dent in the drought situation. Stay tuned!
