Tonight and tomorrow morning a spectacular sight will happen in the night sky, with the closest supermoon of the year. This dazzling full moon will reach peak brightness tomorrow morning at 8:19am, casting an especially bold glow thanks to its proximity to Earth. It will be below the horizon so tonight would be the best chance to catch this spectacular sight.
The name “Beaver Moon” comes from the signaling when the beavers begin to build its shelter for the winter before the ground freezes. The Beaver Moon is the second of four supermoons which will allow it to appear 14% larger and 30% brighter.
But the lunar show isn’t the only thing happening overhead this month. November will be packed with celestial activity with several meteor showers expected to light up the sky. Among them, the Southern Taurids will be the standout event, peaking right around the same time the full moon reaches its maximum illumination.
The combination of a supermoon and meteor showers makes this one of the most exciting stargazing weeks of the season.
