The XFL Is Set To Return In 2020

Faster games, simpler rules, and no half-time.
Vince McMahon says he knows how to fix professional football.
The World Wrestling Entertainment founder announced Thursday that he’s bringing back the XFL 19 years after it first failed to catch on with fans.

McMahon and NBC first launched the new football league in 2001, but it only lasted one year.
The XFL was more violent than the NFL and more extreme.
Teams had names like the New Jersey Hitmen and the cheerleaders dressed like more like pole dancers.
But the league McMahon described Thursday sounds nothing like the old XFL.
He says the new XFL will be family friendly.
McMahon also says the new league won’t allow players with criminal records.
Though he welcomes former NFL players like Tim Tebow and Colin Kaepernick, but there will no sideline protests in the XFL.

“As far as our league is concerned, it will have nothing to do with politics. Absolutely nothing. And nothing to do with social issues either,” McMahon said. “We’re there to play football. We want really good football and I think that’s what fans want.”

The NFL’s ratings have fallen drastically over the past few seasons and many former fans say the league’s handling of player protests turned them off of the game.
