Warmer trend continues into weekend
A few rain chances will sweep into the Carolinas between Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, but don't expect much in terms of totals.
We’re one week away from Thanksgiving, but our turkeys are getting cooked early after record highs (79Β°) swelled into the Queen City yesterday. This Thursday afternoon’s temperatures will be a bit cooler after a cold front swept through the Carolinas, but the mercury will remain about 5-10Β° above normal in the 60s and 70s across the board. While sunny skies will set the tone this morning, more clouds will build into the WCCB Charlotte viewing area tonight as another rainmaking system approaches from the west. A few isolated showers will push their way into the Carolinas overnight into Friday morning, but most communities remain dry over the next 24 hours.
Mostly cloudy skies stick around through Friday, but temperatures warm into the mid-70s once again as southwesterly winds make a return. It appears that our best chance for rain over the next five days arrives between Friday evening and Saturday morning as another incoming front sends pulses of energy and moisture in our direction before sweeping through by Saturday afternoon. While it won’t amount to much, short-range models are in good agreement that most communities in the WCCB Charlotte viewing area see some kind of measurable rainfall within this timeframe. Partly-to-mostly sunny skies erupt across the Metro as we roll into Saturday’s second half, and temperatures will find their way back into record territory Saturday afternoon; highs will approach 80Β° along the I-85 corridor and southeastward.
Another round of cooler air filters into the Carolinas on the backside of Saturday’s front, but temperatures remain 5-10Β° above average heading into Thanksgiving week. Another weak disturbance will bring more rain chances to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area next Tuesday, but the bigger story will be the major cooldown behind it. Temperatures will settle closer to normal – near 60Β° – in the Queen City for our Thanksgiving Thursday, with even colder air lurking as we roll into the holiday weekend.
