Wilson’s World: Talking Home Fire Safety and Smoke Alarms with the Red Cross & Lowe’s
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – It may never happen to you, but you should be prepared just in case there is a fire in your home. Wilson was at the Red Cross on Park Road this morning talking fire safety and prevention and the importance of smoke alarms in your home.
For over 20 years Lowe’s Home Improvement has partnered with the American Red Cross to support them with their efforts to provide fire prevention and safety information to families in our communities. They volunteer with the Red Cross regionally with the Red Cross’ Sound the Alarm program which provides and installs smoke alarms for families across the area.
Members of the Red Cross joined with members of Lowe’s to talk with Wilson about the importance of teaching children fire safety and what to do in case of a fire. Most people do not realize that smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years and the batteries replaced every 6 months.
The Western North Carolina Region Red Cross serves 47 counties in the western half of the state. Beginning this spring in our region the Red Cross will be installing over 1,500 alarms as part of the Sound the Alarm program and they will be needing volunteers to help the installation. Lowe’s will be part of the program, but they need additional volunteers to help. If you would like to volunteer go to soundthealarm.org and sign up.
