Teen Charged After Hit And Run Involving Fort Mill Crossing Guard

A Charlotte teen who arrested for failing to stop after hitting a crossing guard in Fort Mill has been charged.

Johnny Clifton IV has been charged with one count of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Minor Injury.

He was given a $5,000 bond and is in custody at the Fort Mill Police Department.

FORT MILL, SC — A 19-year-old will face charges after police say he hit a crossing guard in front of Fort Mill Middle School Friday afternoon and took off.

The accident happened around 2:50pm at the school’s entrance on Springfield Parkway. Police say 58-year-old Gary Tate, of Charlotte, was hit by Johnny Clifton IV, also of Charlotte.

Tate was taken to CMC-Pineville where officials say he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Clifton was eventually located by investigators and taken into custody. Officials say he is currently being held at the Fort Mill Police Department pending charges.
