Temps rebound, much-needed rain in sight

While Thursday won't be a washout, much-needed rain chances will build overnight into Friday.

The cold is nowhere near as brutal as it was Monday morning, but we’re swallowing another bitter chill as we kick off the second day of the workweek. This time around, however, temperatures will rise into much more tolerable territory. Highs surge into the 40s and 50s across the board this Tuesday afternoon, aided by plentiful sunshine and southwesterly winds. The mercury continues to climb into Wednesday, possibly approaching 60Β° for only the second time so far this December. The return of above-average temperatures for our Hump Day will come despite increasing clouds ahead of our next rainmaking system.

An expansive cold front will push into the Carolinas by Thursday evening, bringing much-needed rain chances back to the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. While it’s unlikely that we’ll see any severe weather, a few heavy, gusty thundershowers may roll through the Charlotte Metro overnight Thursday into Friday. Most locations see under a half-inch of rain, but we’ll take what we can get as moderate drought conditions extend well east of I-77. Temperatures will once again fall in the incoming front’s wake on Friday and Saturday, with a hard freeze likely across the board to kick off the weekend, but highs in the Piedmont and Foothills quickly climb back into the 60s by Sunday. A second, much weaker cold front sweeps into the Southeast by the start of next week, but it doesn’t appear that temperatures nor rain chances will see much action.
