NTSB gives update into Greg Biffle plane crash

The National Transportation Safety Board provided new details in the plane crash that killed NASCAR legend Greg Biffle, members of his family, and three others.

NTSB officials say the plane hit lights and trees before crashing down on the runway at Statesville Airport on Thursday morning.

There were seven people on board: Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, their son Ryder, Greg’s daughter Emma, family friend Dennis Dutton, his son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth.

Authorities confirm one of the passengers sent a text to a family member before the plane crash, saying β€œemergency landing.”

β€œWe don’t have any information to determine what emergency might be going on in the aircraft,” officials said. β€œIt did look like the aircraft was configured appropriately for landing, but it was low in the videos.”

Crews are now removing the wreckage at the airport, and that should be done in the next couple of days.

Investigators have audio recordings from inside the cockpit, and they are reviewing the plane’s maintenance records. A preliminary report is expected in the next 30 days.
