Original Story (Feb. 20th):

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — Investigators say a man was shot and killed while he was coyote hunting in Taylorsville.

Officials responded to a shooting just before 6pm on Edd Burgess Extension.  Upon arrival officers found Michael Marsh, 26, suffering from several gunshot wounds to the chest area of his body.

Evidence showed March was hunting coyotes and had an electronic coyote call, according to a news release.  Marsh was hunting with a .12 gauge shotgun and a 22/250 Ruger American bolt action rifle.

A man was reportedly rendering aid to Marsh when officers arrived on scene.  The man told officers that he heard coyotes screaming in the area and thought coyotes had trapped something so he went to see what was happening.  The man said he saw something that looked to him like a coyote that had trapped something in a tree.  The man said he fired two shots at the brown and grey movement at the tree.  That’s when the man said he realized he shot Marsh with his .223 hunting rifle.

Marsh was taken to Wake Forest Baptist where he was pronounced dead.  The case and evidence will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office prior to any charges being filed.
