Winds Help Quickly Spread Lancaster County Brush Fire Which Damages 6 Homes, Destroys 3
INDIAN LAND, SC — Three homes were destroyed and six others were damaged in Lancaster County after a brush fire quickly spread Thursday afternoon.
Lancaster County Fire Marshal Russell Rogers says the fire broke out around 3:30pm in the Sun City retirement community. Investigators say a cigarette that wasn’t completely extinguished is to blame.
According to officials, the flames quickly spread due to high winds and engulfed several surrounding homes.
Officials say three homes were destroyed by the fire, one was damaged and left uninhabitable, and five others received minor exterior damage. No injuries were reported.
“The wind worked against us,” said Rogers.
A ‘Red Flag Warning’ (low humidity and high wind) had been issued around noon for that part of South Carolina.
