Wilson’s World: With Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council Working on Gold Award Projects

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –Β  Wilson was at the Girls Scouts Hornets Nest Council in Charlotte to learn more about the great work these young ladies are doing as part of their Gold Award Projects.

Just a few of the projects that the girls are taking on include a 5k race, puppy yoga and healthcare for women. For these projects the girls can earn the Gold Award, the highest award that can be earned as a Girl Scout.

Carolyn is organizing the Race4Rett 5kΒ  to raise awareness for Rett Syndrome.Β  Rett Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder.Β  The race will be held on Saturday, April 21st.Β  For more about the event at race4rett.racesonline.com.

Erin is creating the Autism Babysitters Club which trains teens 13 and up to care for children from 0-10years of age with autism.Β  More information about the project can be found at stfrancischarlotte.org/autismbabysittersclub.

Downward with Doggies is Maggie’s project.Β  The project is an event to help pet rescue and adoption in Charlotte.Β  Maggie is still looking for a venue where she can hold the event.Β  To connect with Maggie contact her at downwardwithdoggies@gmail.com.

Scout Eleanore’s project is Project Affirmation to help raise more awareness to mental health issues.Β  Elementary school students are helping Eleanor by creating handmade affirmation cards that will be delivered to mental health facilities.Β  Her goal is to normalize mental illness and bring awareness to younger children.Β  Find out more about her project at Β tinyurl.com/project-affirmations.

Caitlyn has chosen healthcare for women with her project Mobile Flow (MoFlow).Β  Her project is the creation of proper menstrual cycle reusable products so women can continue to be a part of the community.Β  She is focusing on both the Charlotte region connecting with homeless shelters in the area and Somalia.Β  Her largest challenge is finding someone to work with to manufacture the product.Β  Caitlyn plans to sturdy in the field of women’s healthcare in college.
