Broken Sewer Line Floods Several Classrooms At Local Elementary School

GASTONIA, N.C. — A broken sewer line flooded bathrooms in five classrooms at Rhyne Elementary in Gastonia Tuesday morning.

Gaston County Schools spokesman Todd Hagans said that four kindergarten classes were moved to other locations in the school.  Parents of 18 students in a pre-K classroom were called to pick up their children because the school did not have a suitable location to house them for the day. State regulations require a specific classroom set-up, according to Hagans.

As of 11:30 Tuesday morning, the sewer line had been fixed, and crews were cleaning the bathrooms where toilets had overflowed. Hagans expects the mess to be cleaned up by the end of the day, and classes should be held on a normal schedule on Wednesday.
