Thousands Picking Up The Pieces As Severe Storms Hits WCCB Viewing Area

HUNTERSVILLE, NC.–  Trees littering roads, power lines down, even damaged homes. This sight all over the WCCB viewing area. Right now, thousands are picking up the pieces.

“It’s just devastating, but it happened so fast.” says Huntersville farmer Danny Phillips.

Phillips looking at what used to be his barn.

“You walk around it’s just like, right over there the metals up in the trees, just total shock really right now.”

Assessing the damage after it was destroyed in the storms on Sunday.

“This barn is totally demolished. The barn right across the street is totaled. The one down there is totaled.”

Over in Gaston County, a massive tree toppled over in the road in Mount Holly. WCCB talked to the homeowner who says it was the wind that took the tree down, they heard a boom, and called 911.

There were reports of hail in Belmont, the streets of downtown was littered with debris. Residents say the hail was the size of a golf balls and was extremely loud.

“All of a sudden you just hear a poor down, everything was like slamming up on the roof  and it scared everybody in the restaurant we actually went to the cooler for a minute,” says Belmont resident Christian Eidson.

Interstate 77 in Davidson is back open, after trees blocked both  directions at Exit 30 for about five hours. Over on I-85 south, rain was pouring down and the heavy winds didn’t help with visibility.

Cars had their hazard lights on and dozens of cars pulled over to the side of the road, waiting for the rain to die down.
