School Fight Caught On Cam Leaves Mom Demanding Answers
HUNTERSVILLE, NC — A fight at a local middle school has a mother demanding answers from Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
She says the school should have done more to protect her son and other students but says CMS is not responding.
Cell phone footage shows two boys throwing punches inside a classroom at JM Alexander Middle School last Friday.
“It could have been stopped. It could have been avoided,” said Kenyatta Foreman.
Foreman and her husband say the video shows her 12-year-old son fighting with another child he’s had previous problems with in the past.
For more than 18 minutes, she says the boys argued and fist fought inside the classroom.
“I didn’t see a teacher involved. A teacher didn’t try to stop it before they even started fighting. These students should have been removed from the classroom,” said Foreman.
She says other children broke up the fight, and the school suspended the boys for a week.
Foreman wants a detailed report on how this got out of control but says the district won’t respond.
“No, I don’t feel like my child is safe,” said Foreman.
This isn’t the first time she’s confronted the district.
She says she has reported her child being bullied. She says he has legal documents that show he needs to be seated in a spot with little distractions.
Last year, she says the state Department of Public Instruction found the school non-compliant in his education specifics. He had to got to Summer school to make up the lost education time. She provided documents detailing that report.
The district responded to WCCB Charlotte. It says, “Any parents who has concerns is advised to contact their child’s principal. If they are not satisfied with the response from their child’s school, they can call the Learning Community Superintendent.”
This mom says she already did that and copied WCCB Charlotte on the e-mails.
“They have not responded,” said Foreman. So, I would like to meet with them so they can look at the tapes and videos and give me some feedback.”
