Report: EpiCentre to go up for sale, again
CHARLOTTE, NC — The revitalization of what once was uptown Charlotte’s mecca for entertainment appears to have hit another snag. The EpiCentre may be going back up for sale.
Shopping, restaurants and bustling nightlife in Charlotte’s EpiCentre is now just nostalgia for those who grew up in the city.
The hub for Charlotte entertainment has changed ownership multiple times in the last decade. Most recently in 2022, by the property management group, CBRE, after years of steady decline in popularity.
The company attempted a rebrand. Changing the name to the Queen City Quarter. It doesn’t appear that was enough because according to the charlotte business journal — the company plans to sell the property.
“I’ve heard from several sources that they are planning to list this site for sale,” said Danté Anderson.
The EpiCentre is in Charlotte City Councilwoman Anderson’s district.
“This is a dormant space and dormant spaces don’t do well for the city so we want to see that space revitalized,” explained Anderson.
Anderson said she’s surprised no one has been able to rebuild the space to what it once was. Instead of seeing this sale as a setback, Anderson is hopeful it will spark a comeback.
“It is the right time for the right developer to come in and bring the epicenter back to life,” said Anderson.
We reached out to CBRE for comment. We have not heard back.
