Well above average temperatures continue

Tracking a major temperature change

The late spring-like weather continues to dominate the Carolinas as highs once again soared into the 80s in the Piedmont today with even a few pop-up storms earlier today. Tomorrow is more of the same with mostly sunny skies and a pop-up shower or storm. By Friday, rain chances rise a bit as more numerous afternoon showers and storms are possible as surface temperatures once again rise into the low 80s. I’m sure there will be no surprise when I tell you Saturday will be basically another carbon copy of the day before with late spring-like conditions.

Unfortunately, the Jet stream looks to not be overly cooperative with Easter plans this year as a dip to the south will fuel a storm system. Low pressure will develop over the Ohio Valley this weekend and its associated cold front will swing through our area on Sunday. The exact timing is still in the air, but it looks like rain will be likely for everyone at some point on Easter. The good news is it likely won’t be a washout, but more so a line of showers with embedded storms. The other good news is we desperately need the rain as we officially are in the 2nd driest start of the year on record!

After the cold front works through, temperatures fall drastically early next week with highs returning to the 60s and morning lows in the 40s. This is actually much closer to average for this time of year, but will feel much cooler due to how warm we have been as of late. Another important reminder that the lack of rain means we still have a statewide burn ban in ALL of North Carolina!
