Gas Prices Rising And Airport Lines Growing Heading Into Memorial Day Weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC.– With Memorial Day weekend approaching — gas prices are rising across the Carolinas and airport lines are growing. If you’re skipping town for the long weekend, we got you covered.
AAA estimates 1.8 million Carolinians will hit the road for the long weekend. Whether it’s by plane, train or automobile experts say the key is leaving early.

Charlotte Douglas Airport officials say Thursday and Friday are going to be the busiest. There will be at least 31,000 passengers passing through the airport each day. If you’re flying, officials say you should arrive two hours before your flight, and prepare for possible delays at TSA checkpoints.

Meanwhile, on the roads, NC DOT says they’re pausing most road construction projects that have lane closures on major routes. That will start Friday and end on Tuesday. Thursday, people at gas pumps furious over the price tag.

Regular unleaded gas is averaging $2.75 a gallon in Charlotte. That’s nine cents more than last week. The state-wide average is $2.76.

“They are definitely too much, and I think it should be a lot lower. Even though people want to go travel, they can’t go because of the gas prices,” said traveler David Mcintyra.
