Local deputy arrested in connection to active and ongoing investigation of dog fighting

CHESTERFIELD CO., S.C. – A Chesterfield County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested followed allegations of dog fighting. Shane Gaskins was sworn in as a deputy in June of 2025.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division executed a search warrant at his home Tuesday morning. After his arrest Tuesday morning, the sheriff’s office terminated Gaskins. SLED’s dog fighting investigation is active and ongoing.

Sheriff Cambo Streater says the department will fully cooperate with SLED. Once SLED announces the charges Gaskins faces, we will let you know.
