Tracking late evening rain and storms that continue into Thursday afternoon

Below average temperatures late week

Our first round of light rain will be early this morning into early afternoon.

The main storm system with rain and storms moves into our region late tonight. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop after 8 p.m. and continue on and off through the overnight hours.

Right now, the steadiest and heaviest rain looks most likely early Thursday morning, especially between about 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. That said, not everyone will see heavy rain at the same time, and totals are going to vary quite a bit. Some neighborhoods could get a quick downpour, while others see lighter rain.

There will be a few slowdowns for the Thursday morning commute, but it does not look like an all-morning washout for everyone. In fact, some areas may see the heaviest rain move through before sunrise.

This rain is actually very welcome news across the Carolinas. We’ve been dealing with very dry conditions for months, and many areas desperately need the moisture. It’s been nearly two months since much of the area has picked up even a half-inch of rain, and around three months since many spots have seen over an inch in a single event.

This is not an event for everyone!  Areas south and west of Charlotte have the best chance to pick up some meaningful rainfall.
