Man arrested after firing BB gun at passing cars, deputies say

TROUTMAN, N.C. – A man is facing charges after deputies say he was firing pellet rounds at moving vehicles on an Iredell County road.

The investigation began in February after deputies received multiple reports of vehicles being damaged while driving on Perth Road in Troutman, North Carolina.

Deputies received tips from nearby residents that helped them identify the area of the incidents and the suspect, 58-year-old James Bost. Detectives set up surveillance equipment to help with the investigation.

On Saturday, May 2, deputies received another reported incident about a driver stating that their car was hit while driving in the area. Upon reviewing surveillance footage, deputies said the pellet rounds were fired by Bost from his driveway.

A search warrant was executed at Bost’s residence where deputies said they recovered a BB rifle, pellets, and other weapons capable of firing BBs or pellets.

β€œThe detectives involved in this case put in a lot of hard work and time to conduct surveillance and utilized the surveillance tools necessary to obtain enough evidence to bring justice to those who had been victimized by Bost,” Sheriff Campbell said. “I also want to thank the residents and community members who remained vigilant and continued to communicate with law enforcement throughout this investigation. Their cooperation and willingness to report information played an important role in helping us bring this case to a close.”

Bost was charged with eight counts of assault with a deadly weapon and eight counts of injury to personal property. He was given a $50,000 bond.
