Jennifer Roberts says she wants to serve as interim mayor after Vi Lyles steps down

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Jennifer Roberts says she wants to serve as interim mayor of Charlotte.

In a letter posted on X, Roberts says she would bring her experience as former Mayor from 2015 to 2017 and as County Commission Chair to the job. She also says she wouldn’t take pay or benefits, and promises she wouldn’t run for a full-term next year.

City Council will appoint whoever will serve the rest of outgoing Mayor Lyles’ term, which ends in December 2027.
