Local high school wins appeal after controversial call costs them state championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A local high school has won its appeal after a controversial call originally cost it a state championship. An appeals board with the North Carolina High School Athletic Association vacated the disqualification from the four-by-400 relay from last month.
Mallard Creek High School track star Nyam Brown lifted his hand in the air to celebrate what he thought was a win.
An official disqualified Brown for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Mallard Creek High School will now be co-state champions in 8A Men’s Track and Field with C.E. Jordan High. Mallard Creek will be co-champions in the 4-by-400 relay with Hough High School.
