Cloudy evening with one more wave of rain & storms Wednesday

Heat wave building

Expect lingering scattered showers and a isolated storm tonight as temperatures remain in the upper 60s tonight.

By Wednesday, we start to see a noticeable transition as the moisture begins to pull away from the Carolinas. We’ll see a mix of clouds and sunshine throughout the day, and while most locations stay dry, there is still a small chance for an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. Rain coverage will be limited, with temperatures rebounding nicely into the upper 80s.

Wednesday night looks much quieter as any isolated afternoon storm quickly fades after sunset. Skies will become partly cloudy overnight with comfortable temperatures dropping back to around 70 degrees.

The focus then shifts from rain to heat as we head toward the end of the week. Thursday will feature a good deal of sunshine with highs reaching the lower 90s. A stray afternoon or evening thunderstorm remains possible, but most areas staying dry. Humidity levels will begin climbing, making it feel more like the heart of summer.

By Friday, (potentially the hottest day of the year) the heat really takes center stage. Expect plenty of sunshine and very hot conditions with afternoon highs soaring into the mid-90s. Heat index values could approach or exceed 100 degrees during the hottest part of the day. After enjoying several days of cooler and wetter weather, we’re making a quick return to a classic summertime pattern with hot afternoons, warm nights, and only isolated storm chances heading into the weekend.
