Isolated storms Thursday with heat index values above 100°

Hottest day of the year moves in Friday

Tonight, any lingering showers and thunderstorms will gradually fade this evening as our recent stretch of unsettled weather begins to move out. A few showers could linger through the first half of the night, but rain coverage will continue decreasing after sunset. Skies will remain partly to mostly cloudy overnight with temperatures settling into the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

Thursday marks the beginning of a noticeable heat wave across the Carolinas. We’ll see a mix of sunshine and clouds with only a slight chance of an isolated afternoon thunderstorm. Most locations will stay dry as highs climb to around 90 degrees. With humidity remaining high, it with heat index values over 100.

The heat turns up another notch on Friday. Expect plenty of sunshine and hot, muggy conditions as temperatures soar into the mid-90s. When you factor in the humidity, it will feel more like 100 to 105 degrees during the hottest part of the afternoon. Rain chances remain very low, so most of us will stay dry while dealing with the building heat.

The summer heat settles in for the weekend. Saturday will feature mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the mid-90s once again. Heat index values are expected to top 100 degrees in many locations, especially during the afternoon. A stray pop-up thunderstorm is possible, but most neighborhoods will remain rain-free.

Sunday brings more of the same with a classic summertime setup with lots of sunshine, hot temperatures, and just a slight chance of a late-day shower or thunderstorm. Highs will remain in the mid-90s, with heat index values once again reaching the 100 to 105 degree range. If you’re spending time outdoors this weekend, be prepared for the heat by staying hydrated, taking frequent breaks, and limiting strenuous activity during the hottest hours of the day.
