Lingering storms into Tuesday
Humidity drops tomorrow evening
We’re keeping a close eye on the weather tonight as a cold front moves through the Carolinas. A few thunderstorms could become strong to severe, with the main threats being damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and torrential rainfall that could cause localized flooding. Even outside of the storms, a gusty southwest wind will keep conditions feeling hot and humid.
Once the front pushes through overnight, we’ll get a short-lived break from the excessive humidity. Tuesday and Wednesday will feature highs in the upper 80s, which is close to where we should be this time of year. Tuesday isn’t completely dry, as a few isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms could still develop, but the coverage looks much lower.
Wednesday is shaping up to be the best day of the week. Expect a mix of sunshine and comfortable humidity levels with no rain in the forecast. If you’ve been waiting for a day to spend outside without worrying about storms, Wednesday is your day.
That break won’t last long, though. By late week and heading into the weekend, the atmosphere returns to a more typical summer pattern. Humidity levels will gradually increase, pushing afternoon heat index values back into the mid to upper 90s. We’ll also see the return of those classic summertime pop-up showers and thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours.
Stay weather wise!
