Police investigating deadly crash in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police are investigating a deadly crash that happened in north Charlotte on Thursday night.

Around 9:15 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Statesville Road and Lake Road in regards to a serious vehicle collision.

Upon arrival, police located an unresponsive pedestrian, 34-year-old Keith Blanks, and a Chevrolet Traverse driver, 26-year-old Meinyunah Foiyoe. Medic responded and pronounced Blanks dead at the scene. Foioye was not injured.

Police said Blanks attempted to cross Statesville Road outside the designated crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle.

According to police, Foiyoe was not impaired, and speed is not believed to be a contributing factor.

This crash remains under investigation.
