CMS Early College students kick off school year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Classes are officially underway for some students in Mecklenburg County. On Thursday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools welcomed back students at the Charlotte Engineering Early College and Charlotte Teacher Early College High Schools. The two specialized programs allow students to earn both a high school diploma, and tuition-free college credits. District and school leaders gathered on campus Thursday afternoon to celebrate the new year, emphasizing financial relief and academic advantages for families.

CEEC junior Kabir Jani says, “Having so many of my classes paid for, it’s just taking off a lot of the load for my family and myself to make the funds to pay for these classes. So it’s, it’s just been great relieving a lot of stress for that.”

The rest of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will return to the classroom August 25.
