CMS hosts job fair to recruit bus driver applicants to fill critical shortage

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is launching an aggressive hiring push to tackle a critical shortage of bus drivers across the district.

On Wednesday, the district held its first major transportation hiring event of the school year. Officials say they desperately need more drivers to alleviate the burden on current staff and to ensure students get to school and back home on time.

CMS operates the largest school bus fleet in North Carolina. The district provides its own certified CDL training classes to get applicants up to speed. CMS Assistant Director of Transportation Operations Anthony Melton says, “It is fun. It is fun. You are the first educator that students see before they go to school. And you are the last educator that students see when they go home.”
