Accused Dilworth traffic cone assault suspect bonds out of jail

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The man accused of attacking two women with traffic cones in Dilworth is out of jail. 32-year-old Evin Sims is charged two counts of assault on a female and communicating threats.

The alleged attacks happened on the night of September 27th. 27-year-old Sandy Stirrup says she was pumping gas at the Circle K on East Boulevard when Sims hit her on the head with a traffic cone. The second victim, an unnamed 24-year-old woman, says Sims then grabbed another cone and hit her, leaving a cut on her forehead.

Police used surveillance video from the Circle K and a nearby street camera to identify Sims.

Stirrup says, “I didn’t do anything to provoke him. We didn’t have a conversation, nothing happened. He threw the traffic cone at my head and it knocked me straight to the ground.”

Sims was let out of jail on $7,500 bond for the assault charges and $2,500 for communicating threats. He’s been ordered to have no contact with the victims.
