CDOT making traffic safety changes at intersection where six-year-old girl was hit and killed

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte City leaders are taking immediate action to overhaul a local intersection following the tragic death of six-year-old Mariana Espinoza. The Charlotte Department of Transportation has confirmed it is converting the intersection of Barrington Drive and Lanecrest Avenue in east Charlotte into an all-way stop.

The changes come directly after local residents voiced urgent safety concerns about the area. Work orders have already been issued to install large, highly visible stop signs and “stop ahead” pavement markings on all four approaches.

CDOT is also actively deploying traffic data tubes along Barrington Drive to evaluate if more speed or safety adjustments will be needed in the future.
