Rising Waters On Hundreds Of Union County Roads Making Dangerous Conditions
UNION COUNTY, NC. — Dangerous conditions as hundreds of roads across Union County filled with water. Residents were under curfew from Sunday evening until Monday morning.
Shannon Road and Waxhaw Indian Trail Road was one of the hardest hit ares in the county. Sunday, inches of rushing water mixed with debris filled the road.
Residents in neighborhoods on Shannon road even got stuck, and couldn’t leave their neighborhoods.
Meanwhile, across the county, roads blocked at every corner. Making it difficult for Pastor Tim Helms to get to Central Baptist Church as the building was flooding.
“We got a call that we had a lot of water in the basement, and we got here and there was 2 1/2 inches or so of water in the basement,” says Pastor Helms.
Helms says he’s lived in Union County his whole life, and has never seen flooding like this before.
“This is about the worst it’s ever been. We’ve had a couple little things like this happen but nothing to this scale.”
Union County Sheriff’s Office says at one point, they ran out of cones and barricades to block flooded roads. There were also a few water rescues in low-lying residential areas.
