CHARLOTTE, NC – Trucks rolled out throughout the day Sunday at Charlotte DOT’s slag yard. “The priorities are major thoroughfareslike Central Avenue, the Plaza, Beatties Ford Road,” says Tom Shavani with CDOT.
With forecasters predicting more ice, crews have been constantly modifying their plan. Trucks on the road right now are laying down not just salt brine, but they’ve added in about 10 percent Calcium Chloride.
DOT officials warn ice rather than snow will make for a much more difficult driving situation Monday night into Tuesday.
Meanwhile, NCDOT got started even earlier. They treated interstates and major highways Saturday and will pick back up Monday. “Monitor the forecast, as it changes. Right now, we’re just doing that. We’re watching to see as things move in,” says NCDOT spokesperson Jordan-Ashley Walker.
