ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Cole Hamels made his Texas Rangers debut on Saturday, but he had to settle for a no-decision after leaving with a 7-4 lead in the eighth inning of a 9-7 loss to San Francisco. The Giants tied it with a three-run eighth off the Texas bullpen before Hunter Pence and Brandon Belt homered in the 11th inning. Hamels was charged with five runs on eight hits over 7 2/3 innings, one day after the Rangers acquired him from Philadelphia.
CANTON, Ohio (AP) — The Pro Football Hall of Fame will allow Junior Seau’s (SAY’-owz) daughter to speak in an interview after his bust is unveiled next weekend. The Hall said Sydney Seau’s remarks will be live and onstage in a fashion similar to interviews of returning Hall of Famers. The Hall of Fame also said Sydney will represent her father and be interviewed during the Thursday night Enshrinees’ Gold Jacket Dinner.
GAINESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Troy Merritt and Kevin Chappell are co-leaders through three rounds of the PGA’s Quicken Loans National. Merritt shot a tournament-record 10-under 61 that included 11 birdies and one bogey. Chappell fired a 4-under 67 to tie Merritt at 14-under, one shot ahead of Rickie Fowler.
TURNBERRY, Scotland (AP) — South Korea’s Jin Young Ko and Taiwan’s Teresa Lu share the lead after three rounds of the Women’s British Open. Each shot a 3-under 69 in the third round to finish play 8 under par. Norway’s Suzann Pettersen (PEHT’-ur-suhn) shot par and will start the final round one shot off the lead.
LEXINGTON, Ohio (AP) — Scott Dixon will start from the pole in Sunday’s Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car course. He grabbed the pole over Will Power and Sebastian Bourdais (bohr-DAY’), who qualified third. Dixon has won five times in 10 starts at this course and is the defending champ.
