STATESVILLE, N.C. — An Iredell County man has been charged after authorities say he threatened to bring a gun onto a middle school campus in November.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Department on Friday, November 16th, 2018, 44-year-old Bernard Edward Miller called West Iredell Middle School and spoke with school administration about a an incident he perceived as bullying.
During the phone conversation, authorities say Mr. Miller talked about bringing a gun to West Iredell Middle School and “handling the problem himself”.
West Iredell Middle School officials informed the school resource officer, Deputy Antonio Lawrence, who filed an incident report with the details.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Threat Assessment Investigator Dallas Hicks reviewed the case and obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Miller for Communicating a Threat of Mass Violence on Educational Property.
Mr. Miller was arrested on December 15th, 2018 and given a $5,000 bond.
“This type of threat toward any school in Iredell County will not be tolerated and will be investigated to its fullest extent. He noted that this is a prime example of how School Resource Officers and our Threat Assessment Investigator work hand in hand to help keep our schools safe,” stated Sheriff Darren Campbell.
