Two Women Arrested For Assaulting Handicapped Man

Lincolnton, NC – On Monday, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office charged two women with assaulting an individual with a disability.

The charges came after an investigation into an incident that occurred at a group home that the victim was living at in Lincolnton.

Detectives say the women had problems getting the man to comply when getting off the group home’s van after returning from an activity.

Witnesses told detectives that is when the women struck him several times about his body with a metal broom handle.

According to detectives, the man had several welts and bruising about his body, as well as a large scrape to his knee after falling from being struck.

He was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment and released the same day.

Amaya Hope Martin, 20, was charged with one felony count of assault of an individual with a disability and one misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Casandra Marie Miller, 28, was also charged with one felony count of assault of an individual with a disability and one misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Both women were reportedly suspended immediately from the facility pending the investigation.
