CORNELIUS, N.C. — A no swimming advisory has been issued for a Lake Norman cove after 150 gallons of sewage was discharged Monday morning.

Officials say water crews have stopped the sewage discharge into the cove at 18649 John Conner Road in Cornelius between Springwinds Drive and Peninsula Cove Lane.

Storm Water Services staff from Mecklenburg County will monitor water quality in the area until conditions are safe for human contact, at which time the no swimming advisory will be lifted.

“Lake Norman is designated as recreational waters. That makes it necessary to close the area to recreation because of the potential risk to human health,” said Rusty Rozzelle, who is the  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services’ Water Quality Program Manager.  Rozelle added that the advisories are standard procedure.
